1st grade syllabus expectations
*Reading/writing-students will learn letter sounds, how to blend, answer comprehension questions and read with fluency.
*Writing-students will learn how to form letters and numbers correctly along with writing simple sentences and narratives.
*Math-Students will learn how to count, recognize and understand place value, word problems, shapes, time and money.
*Science-Students will learn about life, physical and earth science.
*Social studies-Students will learn about communities, citizenship and basic Geography.

As salaammu alaykum and welcome to the new school year!. My name is Ms or Sister. Qmar Frazier. I will be your child's first grade teacher! I am very excited to learn and grow with your child being here at Greensboro Islamic Academy. This will be my 14th year teaching. I started out as a teacher assistant with regular and special education. This will be my fourth year at GIA and I'm so excited to be on this journey together with your child. When I am not teaching I love to study, spend time with family and travel. I look forward to meeting you and your child and working together to ensure that your child has a successful academic year!

1 pack of scissors
2 big box of crayons(color pencils are not allowed they will be returned home)
1 dry erase marker
3 packs of big or regular pencils
2 packs of big erasers
1 Water bottle
3 bottles of cleaning wipes(no spray)
1 box kids face mask
1 pack of construction art paper
1 tablet or Ipad for homework-do not buy a new one if the student already has one.
2 heavy duty plastic folders(paper folders won't last)
3 elementary notebooks(no spiral notebooks-they can be dangerous)
1 pack of name tags(1 to wear in school and 1 for bookbag)from anywhere or buy from here

Homework will be given according to what the student didn't finish in class or needs to become stronger in academically.
All homework will be checked and kept in a homework chart.
Homework is a part of the student's grade and is NOT OPTIONAL.
All assignments should be handed in on time, there will be a one week/7 day time frame to get it completed.
Rewards will be given for students trying their best.
If both homework and classwork are consistently incomplete or a struggle for the student, a parent/teacher conference will be scheduled.
With support from both parent(s) and teacher we can ensure the student has a successful school year.
